ESKOM SCIENCE EXPO 2012: Highest number of Medals in KZN

Star College won 18 Gold, 24 Silver and 58 Bronze medals at the Eskom Science Expo for Young Scientists (regional) held at the Durban DLI Hall on the 27 JULY of 2012. Star College received the highest number of awards and medals overall in KZN.
learners from Star College recently entered the ESKOM 2012 Science Expo Project Competition.

58 learners were awarded a BRONZE medals, 24 of them awarded with SILVER and 18 of them awarded with GOLD medals. 7 projects FROM STAR COLLEGE were selected to represent KZN at the National Science Expo Project Competition in Pretoria.

The successful learners are:

Shavani NAICKER and Kaylashni MOODLEY, from grade 8 with their project “Wonder Drum’ ;
Priyanka Sria CHETTY, from grade 10 with her project ‘Measuring the concentration of sugar solution using a beam light’
Azraa ALLI and Genevieve Bronwyn Chetty, from grade 11 with their project “Salt Mirabilis”.
Nikhil Pather from Grade 8 with his project “Thermoelectric Generator”;
Daverin Nadesan from Grade 9 with his project “Magnetic linear accelerator”;
Xanqunnes Singh and Mohammed Zubair Hajee from Grade 11 with their project “Perpedual Power”; and
Muhammed Tootla and Muhammad Randeree from Grade 11 with their project “Ocean wave energy conversion”.

Azraa and Genevieve won the Best Female Project and received a digital camera.
Muhammed Tootla and Muhammad Randeree both received a digital camera as the prize for the Top Project in the Expo.

NATIONAL FINAL was held in Pretoria and Star College learners achieved 2 GOLD 3 BRONZE MEDALS.
Azraa ALLI and Genevieve Bronwyn Chetty, from grade 11 with their project “Salt Mirabilis” received GOLD MEDAL.
Muhammed Tootla, Muhammad Randeree and Daverin Nadesan received BRONZE MEDAL from Pretoria.
